Radio 1 DJ among evacuees from Costa Blanca wildfire
Thousands of people have been evacuated as a wildfire rages south of Valencia on the Costa Blanca.
Reports say the fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately over the weekend, is close to the Spanish coastal resort of Xabia.
Holidaymakers and residents are being evacuated to schools and hostels in the area.
Twenty homes have been destroyed and properties in nearby Benitatxell, Tossalet and Cansalades have also been evacuated.
BBC Radio 1 presenter Chris Stark was among tourists caught up in the area. He tweeted that he and his family were safe, but scared.
"This is crazy. I think my car and maybe my apartment is on fire," he said.
According to the Daily Express, three fires broke out yesterday, one at the Cumbres del Sol at 4.10pm, a second at 6.30pm in Granadella and a third at Playa del Arenal at 8.30pm.
The Foreign Office has updated its advice to say: "If you’re travelling to the Benitachell and Javea areas of Spain check with your travel company whether you’ll be able to access your accommodation, as large areas have been evacuated due to forest fires."
