Thetrainline.com is moving into ancillary sales with the launch of its new car hire service.
The train ticket retailer will offer customers the chance to hire a car positioned close to hundreds of UK stations via its website.
Customers need to go to the dedicated area of the retailer’s website, enter their destination station and dates to see what cars they can use at the end of their journey.
The cost of the hire and the distance of its location from the station are clearly indicated.
There is also a functionality to allow train users to pick up a car at one destination and drop it off at another, a convenient option for business travellers travelling between sites during a trip or leisure users who need to get about once they have stepped off the train.
Director of marketing Iain Hildreth said: “The launch of car hire on thetrainline.com means our customers can now combine rail and road in a convenient way allowing them to enjoy all the benefits of train travel with the flexibility of picking up a hire car near their destination station.
“The train is a great way to travel. It’s cost efficient, carbon friendly and much less stressful than long distance driving – but many people do need a car at the other end. We’re confident that business and leisure travellers alike will find it really useful to be able to combine train and car – and consider the train for more of their travel needs”.
Thetrainline.com has partnered with Car Trawler to offer the service. VP account management at Car Trawler Enda O’Toole added: “Car rental with rail travel is a natural marriage but has been traditionally under-served due to the limitations of single supplier offerings.
“Our ability to provide thetrainline.com customers with a view of all the car rental options around their arrival station is unique to the industry.”
