Toronto again recorded strong tourism growth in 2015 with more than 14 million overnight visitors.

Canada’s most-visited destination posted an increase for the sixth consecutive year and attracted four million overseas visitors for the first time, Tourism Toronto said.

In addition to the 14.03 million overnight visitors, the city welcomed a further 26 million people on day trips.

"Our destination has never looked better or been more attractive to foreign and domestic travellers," said Johanne Bélanger, president and CEO of Tourism Toronto.

It also speaks to the hard work our team and our partners do selling and marketing Toronto in key world markets and the results those efforts are producing."

More than half of international visitors were from US markets with a record 10% increase year over year.

China was the second biggest international market with 260,400 arrivals in 2015 followed by the UK which grew 10% to 237,800 visitors.

Belanger said tourism spend was the highest ever at $7.2 billion during 2015.

"Our meeting and events industry also generates widespread economic activity in businesses from convention centres and hotels to offsite venues, and many others who benefit every time Toronto hosts a meeting, conference or event," said Belanger.
