With the Red Sea EDITION opened, Shura Island, Saudi Arabia, gets its first luxury property
The Red Sea is a pioneering destination on Saudi Arabia’s west coast, spanning over 28,000 square kilometers and more than 90 untouched islands framed by desert and mountains. Open since 2023, it starts to welcome visitors to world-class resorts by leading hospitality brands since 2025, including Shura Island.
Along the pristine white-sand shores of Shura Island on Saudi Arabia’s west coast, The Red Sea EDITION has officially opened, marking the lifestyle brand’s second property in the Kingdom following its debut in Jeddah last year. Blending contemporary sophistication with authentic local inspiration, the resort symbolizes understated luxury while embodying Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 ambition to become a world-class destination for sustainable tourism.
Stretching across a one-kilometer private beach, The Red Sea EDITION offers sweeping views of the turquoise waters of the Red Sea and the lush greens of Shura Links — Saudi Arabia’s first 18-hole island golf course, designed by world-renowned architect Brian Curley.
The property is the first to open on Shura Island, a centerpiece of the Red Sea destination that will eventually host an array of luxury resorts, marinas, entertainment venues, and dining options. Set within an archipelago of 90 untouched islands bordered by the world’s fourth-largest coral reef, the project reflects Red Sea Global’s (RSG) vision of regenerative tourism — harmonizing ecological preservation with exceptional guest experiences.
Developed through a partnership between Marriott International, EDITION Hotels, and Red Sea Global, the resort is entirely powered by renewable solar energy and showcases architecture deeply rooted in the natural environment. “The opening of The Red Sea EDITION is a milestone for our brand’s expansion in the region,” said George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader, EDITION Hotels. “It reflects our mission to redefine luxury through authenticity, contemporary design, and intuitive service.”
Luxury without ostentation
Guests arrive via the Red Sea International Airport and cross the Kingdom’s longest over-water bridge before reaching a series of low-rise stone and timber pavilions nestled along the beach. Designed by the Rockwell Group, each space flows seamlessly between desert, sea, and sky — blending coral stone, rammed earth, oak, and soft textiles into a palette inspired by canyons, dunes, and reefs. The hotel features 240 rooms, including 53 suites with private terraces or pools, alongside multiple restaurants, beachfront lounges, pools, and a spa.
The culinary program reflects EDITION’s signature creativity and connection to place. Highlights include Central, a New American-style restaurant reimagining global comfort dishes; and JIWA Beach Club, a sun-soaked Balinese-inspired social hub that transforms into a vibrant nighttime scene with live DJs and bonfires. The upcoming ANASA restaurant, led by celebrated Saudi chef Basma Elkhereiji, will bring refined Aegean-inspired dining to the island.
Wellness is central to the experience. The spa and fitness center integrate natural light, coral stone, and wood into serene environments offering holistic treatments by Omorovicza and Le Labo, hydrothermal therapies, and high-performance fitness sessions.
With over 1,000 square meters of event space, including a ballroom for up to 500 guests, The Red Sea EDITION is set to become a hub for both leisure and business travelers. “This opening marks the beginning of Shura Island’s journey,” said Tony Coveney, Area General Manager for Marriott Luxury Group. “It represents a new chapter for Saudi hospitality — where world-class infrastructure meets EDITION’s distinctive lifestyle ethos.”
