Refunds for sub-par performance

Norwegian Cruise Line, which started service to Hawaii in July, says its plans to offer about $560,000 in refunds to passengers who have experienced sub-par service, according to the Associated Press.

The cruise line’s Pride of Aloha was the company’s first US-flagged ship with an all-American crew.

“The company has faced a number of start-up challenges that have affected some of the Pride of Aloha’s guests’ experience,” NCL America, Miami-based Norwegian’s American subsidiary said in a statement.

Prior to launching service in Hawaii, NCL canceled a two-night, travel-agent cruise out of San Francisco in June.

NCL said it would refund half of passengers’ service charge  —  about $35 per person for a seven-day cruise  —  and issue credits worth 20% of the cruise portion of the Pride of America cruises. The average cruise cost between $800 and $1,000, said AP.

The Pride of Aloha is only the first of three ships planned to sail in Hawaii.
