Regional airlines gain Sydney access certainty
A Travelpress News report says that regional airlines have been granted a guarantee on access and pricing in their use of Sydney Airport.
The Federal Government decision will provide certainty for the future of regional air services in NSW, according to the country’s largest independent regional airline, Regional Express.
Geoff Breust, Rex’s Managing Director, said the decision to ensure access at reasonable prices capped by increases in the inflation rate would mean that his and other airlines linking regional communities with Sydney, the rest of Australia and beyond would be able to continue to provide these essential services and operate with confidence.
The continuation of price notification and price capping arrangements overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), along with the ring fencing of aircraft movement slots for regional services at Sydney Airport and the enroute charges rebate scheme all combine to provide a direct benefit to regional air services, he said.
Mr Breust said those measure provided a practical and effective regime of assistance to those providing an essential service to regional communities.
