Renewed interest in Egypt
Egypt has jumped to take the number two slot in the most searched holiday offers on the Cheapflights site.
The company’s September figures show that the destination has surged forwards from 13th place just the month before to second place behind Tenerife.
Chief executive David Soskin commented: “Egypt’s new found popularity is an extraordinary achievement for a country whose tourist industry was written off after the 1997 Luxor massacre and is testimony to British holidaymakers’ constant willingness to try something new in the sun and at low cost.”
The online site’s figures also show that September was a busy month for customers researching city breaks. Cheapflights said it had seen a huge rise in the number of flight requests to popular short break destinations. Amsterdam for example was a top five destination not just for short breaks but for room -only and for flights as viewers compared the deals on offer.
Meanwhile Malaga retained its top flights position as thousands of viewers looked for flight deals to the Costa del Sol.
