Report claims AirAsia X to quit London, Paris
Speculation is growing in Malaysia that AirAsia X may terminate its long haul budget flights to London, Paris, Delhi and Mumbai as early as next February due to mounting losses.
The Malaysian Insider said it understands that AirAsia X is making heavy losses on its London route despite its popularity with budget travellers.
“It’s not making money. It’s as simple as that,†a source told The Malaysian Insider.
The Business Times reported that AirAsia X had written to the Ministry of Transport on its plans to withdraw the services to the four cities.
There is also speculation that as part of its new alliance with Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia X will withdraw from London and Paris and instead receive MAS’s blessing to fly the Kuala Lumpur-Sydney route.
In an email  AirAsia X said it  not made any decisions on routes, “whether to add new routes or cancel existing routes. Not least of which there has not been any approvals from Ministry of Transport.”
AirAsia X, which started operating to London Stansted Airport in March 2009, relocated to London Gatwick in October this year. Flights to Paris Orly started this year.
Separately, AirAsia is abolishing the counter check-in fees for all international flights throughout its route network. All bookings made on 22 December onwards will be exempted from the RM10 per passenger for counter check-in.

The counter check-in fee was introduced by AirAsia  in September, where guests are charged RM10 per passenger for counter check-in instead of utilising the free-of-charge self check-in options available via web, mobile or kiosks.
