It will come as no surprise to many road warriors that traveling for business in the Big Apple means big bucks.

According to a new report, New York City tops the global list of most expensive cities for business travelers.

An Expert Market analysis report for the BTN Corporate Travel Index says New York business travelers spend $549 per day on average.

In fact US cities made up half of the top 10, which include Boston at $511 per day, Washington, DC ($462), and Chicago  which costs $444 on average per day.

These figures are made up of accommodations, taxis or car rental, and food.

The largest cost is unsurprisingly a hotel room, which in NYC is an average $385.

The report found Bakersfield, California is the cheapest place in the US for business travel with a total average expenditure of $241.

Outside the US Tokyo was the most expensive at $489 per night, followed by Zurich and London.

Despite the costs, business travel is still predicted to grow significantly.

The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) forecasts corporate travel growth of 6.1% and 7% in 2019 and 2020.
