Residents of island resorts in north Queensland are being evacuated as the state braces for another battering following the recent floods.
Cyclone Yasi threatens to develop into one of the worst storms Queensland has seen.
Hamilton Island has evacuated its guests, while other resort islands are preparing to evacuate.
All 300 guests and staff who are at Club Med Lindeman Island are being evacuated for their own safety.
“Club Med considers the safety of its guests and staff paramount, and has not made this decision lightly," said Quentin Briard, general manager for Club Med in Australia.
Latest modelling indicates the cyclone will cross the coast about 140 kilometres north of Townsville early Thursday morning.
