Responsible tourism forum and networking at ITB Asia Singapore.
Last week saw the launch of responsible tourism forum and networking at ITB Asia in Singapore.
Organised by The Blue Yonder, Wild Asia and The Green Circuit, the event was supported by ITB Asia. The evening also saw the announcement of Wild Asia Responsible Tourism awards for 2010.
Continuing the tradition of responsible tourism networking, that was launched four years ago in London by Your Safe Planet and The Blue Yonder, the event saw pitches from new initiatives of responsible tourism in Asia.
The RT forum was inaugurated with a keynote from Gopinath Parayil Founder and Chief Executive of The Blue Yonder, who talked about the linkages in tourism that can be a force to create backward integration of sustainable development in areas were businesses are concentrating.
Harry Van Anh, founder of Eco Travel Services – a social enterprise from Singapore said: “I was so encouraged attending this event. It´s so important for initiatives like ours to meet up with like minded people from the rest of Asia and see that being responsible is also profitable”.
Cecilia Henrikson, Director of Meet Scandinavia found the event inspiring. The company that won ‘Entrepreneurs of the year within Swedish tourism of 2009’, is looking precisely for such gatherings where they can scout for ideal partners in destinations that promote sustainable tourism.
Seeing the success of the event, Carol Hong of Singapore Tourism Board is keen on exploring future options to work together with ITB Asia to promote sustainable tourism in the region.
The event saw succesfull business case studies from different parts of Asia including, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and India. While announcing 2010 Responsible Tourism awards, Dr. Reza, Azmi founder of Wild Asia recollected that every year it is becoming more difficult to judge the best and the number of properties and tour operators promoting sustainable tourism are increasing, which is good for the destinations.
Responsible Tourism forum and networking will be a regular event at ITB Asia in Singapore in the coming years.
