Richard Cranmer exits Cruise Council after 13 years
SYDNEY – One of the founding members of the International Cruise Council Australasia, Discover the World’s Richard Cranmer, has retired from its board after 13 years.
Cranmer formally resigned at ICCA’s annual meeting in Sydney. APT general Manager Chris Hall is the new treasurer.
The remainder of the Board is unchanged, with Silversea Cruises’ regional director Australia and New Zealand, Karen Christensen, moving into her second year as Council chairman.
Speaking at the AGM, Council general manager Brett Jardine paid tribute to Richard Cranmer. “He has shown unwavering energy and commitment in his work with the Council and we thank him for all that he has done.”
Jardine said the organisation had had a successful year despite the economic climate, with membership continuing to grow across all categories.
He said the Council’s annual cruise passenger statistics continued to be a valuable resource for cruise lines and agents, prompting a decision to increase the number of destinations covered in the survey from six to 10 next year.
“The continuing growth in passenger numbers means the time has now come to create separate categories for the booming destinations of Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific.
“We have also decided to start a new category, ‘Other America’, which will incorporate regions such as Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean,” Jardine said.
The 2009 passenger statistics are expected to be released in March 2010.
