Rimini to host the World Cycling Summit Velo-city 2026
Emilia-Romagna continues to position itself as a premier cycling destination, accelerating projects that advance everyday cycling, sustainable travel and bike tourism across the region. The momentum builds toward Velo-city 2026, the World Cycling Summit, which will take place in Rimini, 16–19 June 2026. velo-city-conference.com
Organized by the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), Velo-city returns to Italy for the first time since 1991 when it was hosted then in Milan. Rimini’s winning bid reflects a broader urban shift toward livability, active mobility and climate-smart tourism. The congress hub will be the Palacongressi (IEG Expo).
The event brings together advocates, city leaders, policymakers, researchers and industry—from infrastructure and planning to tourism operators—for four days of conferences, technical tours. A highlight is the signature Bike Parade, designed to showcase cycling’s impact on cities and destinations. A bike ride of about 10 km will involve all the delegates, various guests and the citizenry of Rimini.
The route that will cross the city between the historic center and the sea. Start and End of the bike ride are scheduled at Piazzale Fellini, where a Bike Village with food trucks and music will be set up.
A major international event for Rimini
Attendance expectations are strong: around 1,600 delegates from 60+ countries, with approximately 400 speakers, 80 sessions and 100+ exhibitors—a high-value platform for story gathering, interviews and visuals.
Rimini’s candidacy was supported by FIAB – Federazione Italiana Ambiente e Bicicletta (ECF’s Italian member) and ANCI (association of Italian municipalities), the Republic of San Marino and the Emilia Romagna region.
“The choice of Rimini as the venue for the 2026 edition of Velo-city—and we again thank ECF for having chosen our locality,” highlights the Regional Minister for Sport, Tourism and Commerce, Roberta Frisoni.
” It is yet another confirmation of the growing attention and sensitivity of our territories towards the themes of sustainable mobility, environmental protection and high quality of life. Themes that find in the bicycle one of their best ‘allies’,” she added.
Velo-city’s recent European editions—Leipzig 2023, Ghent 2024, Gdańsk 2025—underline its role as the sector’s flagship forum; in 2027 the summit moves to Japan, making the Rimini edition a timely European stage for mobility and tourism narratives.
