RIP to America’s best-loved city

Monday, 13 Oct, 2009 0

San Francisco, America’s traditional favorite city, fared poorly in the latest Travel & Leisure magazine list of best-liked.

It tumbled to No 11, overtaken by cities such as Houston (#8) and Nashville (#9).
“Shocking,” said the San Francisco Chronicle.

Miami and San Diego were rated most attractive. Honolulu was also among the top ten.

“But Houston…Hmmm. I guess the survey participants have never been to a Texan game,” said the newspaper.

The magazine says San Francisco still offers plenty of treats for visitors: its citizens are stylish (#3) and diverse (#2); its streets are pedestrian-friendly (#4); and it offers a great selection of fashionable boutique hotels (#3).

Just don’t look for a bargain: San Francisco ranks near the bottom (#27) for affordable getaways.

In a final snub, Houston is ahead of San Francisco in the Culture category.
