Rising costs force Olsen out of US
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has scrapped plans to return to the US next year because of rising costs and red tape at various US ports.
The line, which mainly appeals to the UK market, has scrapped four US cruises for 2003 on its ship Braemar. Two of the voyages included turnarounds in New York.
A spokesman for the line said dealing with the ports, customs officials and the US Coast Guard had become difficult and expensive.
Fred Olsen said it would continue to market its cruises to US passengers and keep its membership in the Cruise Lines International Association.
