Rixos to launch in Khao Lak
SINGAPORE – Rixos Hotels has signaled that it will seek a stronger presence in Asia with the launch of the 298-room Rixos Premium Khao Lak on December 16.
The property was previously managed by Accor Asia Pacific under the Sofitel brand. The hotel was overwhelmed by the December 2004 tsunami.
Hundreds died at the Sofitel, including Reggie Shiu, Accor senior vice-president Asia Pacific.
The Rixos Khao Lak will be the Turkish group’s first hotel outside Europe and its first in Asia.
The Khao Lak resort will offer the company’s “all-inclusive†concept in which guests receive meals and other food and beverage options as part of the in-room package.
Tunc Tuncu, Rixos Hotels’ marketing manager, said Rixos would aim to drive business from its European properties into its emerging Asian portfolio..
“By launching the Rixos brand and our premium product in Khao Lak we hope to become as popular and successful in Asia as we are in Europe,†said Tuncu.
Rixos currently has eight hotels, five in Turkey. It is expanding in Dubai, with an Ottoman Palace on the Palm Island Jumeirah and has other properties planned for The World and the second Palm Island in Dubai.
