Roof collapses at Singapore hotel

Monday, 14 Dec, 2015 0
Four people have been hospitalised after the roof outside a Singapore hotel inexplicably collapsed.

The roof outside the entrance of the Hilton hotel on Orchard Road came crashing down Sunday, possibly due to heavy rainfall earlier.

A SUV parked directly outside took most of the impact but four people were taken to hospital with minor injuries caused by falling debris.

"They had scratches, but looked fine and were sent to the hospital as a precaution," said Hilton manager Peter Webster.

"We have the building checked on a regular basis", Webster added.

Safety Inspectors from the Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA) were assessing the damage but hotel operations were continuing as normal.

"The well-being, safety and security of our guests and staff are of paramount importance and all our efforts are currently focused on fully cooperating with the local authorities on their current investigation," a hotel spokesperson later said.
