Royal Caribbean all a-twitter over Oasis of the Seas
SYDNEY – Royal Caribbean is using social and digital media to launch of Oasis of the Seas.
The menu will include webisodes, a blog written by Royal Caribbean’s chairman Richard Fain, Twitter ‘tweets’ and an Australian countdown newsletter.
The Oasis of the Seas webisodes give a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring the 16-deck cruise ship with a capacity of 5,400 passengers to life
The webisodes are a few minutes in length and can be accessed at www.oasisoftheseas.com, where they can be viewed, downloaded and shared online. Visitors can also sign up for an RSS feed on the site.
In addition to the webisodes, the Oasisoftheseas.com site also features the chairman’s blog by Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO of parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
Twitter subscribers can also get ‘tweets’ on the latest Oasis developments. Royal Caribbean Cruises has a Twitter account – QasisandAllure – which provides the latest ‘shiptoids’ on Oasis of the Seas and her sister ship, Allure of the Seas, which is also under construction and scheduled to launch in late 2010.
In Australia, a countdown newsletter will sum up the latest Oasis news as the launch date looms and will release news about any Australian events to celebrate the launch.
When she launches in December 2009, Oasis of the Seas will be the largest cruise ship in the world. She will span 16 decks, encompass 220,000 gross registered tons (GRT), carry 5,400 guests at double occupancy, and feature 2,700 staterooms.
The ship will sail from her homeport of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
