Royal Caribbean building second cruise terminal at Cape Liberty
Royal Caribbean Cruises has agreed to start the next development phase of Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, New Jersey.
The cruise line has struck a deal with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for a second adjacent terminal costing around $55 million.
Groundbreaking has begun on the project and is expected to be completed in time for the arrival of Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas in November.
The new 125,000 square feet terminal will house passenger check-in, a customs and immigration area and luggage facility.
The pier front will be upgraded and a 900-car parking facility will be built.
RCCI opened Cape Liberty in 2004 and serves New York area cruisers, located just 15 minutes from Newark Liberty airport and seven miles south of Manhattan.
It is the year-round home of Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas and seasonally for the Celebrity Cruise ship Celebrity Summit.
The new terminal building will offer "world-class facilities" and will be a "state-of-the-art cruise terminal that will perfectly complement Quantum-class ships," according to Adam Goldstein, COO of Royal Caribbean.
