Royal Caribbean rolls out stateroom upgrade bidding tool
Royal Caribbean has rolled out a new airline-style bidding tool for guests to compete for stateroom upgrades.
The ‘RoyalUp’ program takes effect today, November 28.
Guests will be informed by email if their booked sailing is eligible for upgrades, and is initially only available on selected sailings.
They can then browse available upgrades and submit a bid for the amount they are willing to pay.
Royal Caribbean says offers available for bidding are based on two guests per stateroom, and only the first and second guest will be charged.
Guests can make multiple bids across different categories or can instruct their travel agent to handle the bidding process.
Travel advisors will bag the higher commission if a client’s upgrade bid is successful.
The line says it cannot guarantee the location on the ship for upgraded staterooms or specific features, as all are based on availability.
Bids can be made up to two days before departure.
