Ruff landing?
News item: Atlanta airport opens a fenced-in dog park. It’s a nationwide trend.
The 1,000-square-foot park for canine customers features flowers, grass, and even two original pieces of art for dogs to sniff. Biodegradable bags for pet waste are also available.
The doggone effort is being promoted in part by the US Department of Transportation, which issued regulations this year to make sure there are pet relief areas for passengers traveling with service animals. But all pet-owners can now count on more airport dog facilities.
“All airlines must make sure there are pet relief areas. Airlines and airports have been instructed to work together to make this happen,” says petfriendlytravel.com.
McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas has opened three designated, enclosed areas outside its ticketing lobbies where travelers with pets can take their animals to relieve themselves prior to or after a flight.
Seattle’s Sea-Tac International Airport has two areas equipped to serve as “pet potties for traveling animals.”
And in Phoenix, the Sky Harbor International Airport has a “Bone Yard” pet park where “Mutt Mitts” are provided for owners to clean up after their pets. Water buckets are available for a drink (for dogs, not owners). The gravel ground area is shaped like a bone.
