Russian airline offers only Miami-Moscow service
Transaero Airlines, Russia’s second largest passenger air carrier, has ambitions future plans and recently started non-stop service from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and Miami International Airport to Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport.
Other expanded service moves include the airline adding for the first time a Moscow-Rio de Janeiro route. Service should start in January. Flight time is 12 hours and 30 minutes, according to the company.
“The airline became the only carrier offering a non-stop service from Miami to Russia,” the company says.
“We consider the start of the operations to be Transaero’s contribution to Russia – USA relations reset,” said CEO Alexander Pleshakova in an interview.
He said Miami was attractive for passengers “because it’s a huge city with lots of things to see and to do as well as a world-known tourist destination popular with the Russians. “
He said Transaero Airlines will continue to expand its international service in January 2011 when they will begin regular direct non-stop flights on route Moscow-Rio de Janeiro for the first time in its history.
The airline initial offering is drawing both leisure and business travelers.
The flights last around nine hours and prices start at US$800 economy or $1200 for premium economy.
Transaero Airlines is the second-largest passenger air carrier in Russia. Transaero launched its services in November, 1991.
The Transaeros’ fleet consists of 55 aircraft, including twelve Boeing 747s, seven Boeing 777s, twelve Boeing 767s, twenty one Boeing 737s and three Tupolev 214s.
It is the only carrier flying Boeing 777 and Boeing 747 passenger aircraft in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe, according to the company.
Transaero has the largest long-haul fleet in Russia, according to the company.
