RV campgrounds, cabins now bookable on Expedia
Expedia has become the first of the big US online travel agencies to add cabins at RV parks and campgrounds to its online inventory.
There are now added search options for ‘cabin’ or ‘caravan park’ on drop down menus on Expedia sites.
Expedia has added inventory from Chicago based Equity LifeStyle Properties, which operates RV parks and campgrounds in 32 US states.
The OTA will also list sites from Cruise Inn RV Parks, a 2013 startup that offers marketing and distribution to independent park owners.
According to Drew Bowering, director of key accounts, Expedia "has its eyes firmly on expanding further into outdoor hospitality, including other campgrounds, vacation rentals, small inns, and national parks product."
At the same time, Expedia has also muscled in on the backpacker space with its first listings under a ‘hostel/backpacker accommodation’ category.
It has added its first hostel accommodations in major US cities including New York City, San Francisco, LA, Washington DC, Miami, Chicago, Austin, Portland, Baltimore, San Diego, and Sacramento.
