Ryanair announces winter flight cuts due to Boeing delivery delays
Budget carrier Ryanair is flagging upcoming flight cancellations for winter 2023 due to Boeing aircraft delivery delays.
Ryanair had expected to receive 27 aircraft by December.
Due to Boeing production delays, it now expects to receive only 14 aircraft.
Ryanair is working with Boeing to try to accelerate deliveries in the January to May 2024 period.
As a result, Ryanair will make a number of adjustments to its winter 2023 schedule.
It is cutting the number of Charleroi based aircraft by three, Dublin based aircraft by two, and will reduce five aircraft based in Italy.
There will also be aircraft reductions in East Midlands, Porto, and Cologne.
Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary said: “Our primary objective is to ensure we get delivery of all 57 contracted B737 aircraft before the end of May 2024,”
Then, Ryanair’s fleet will grow to over 600 aircraft in time for its largest ever summer flight programme.
“These flight cancellations will take effect from the end of October and will be communicated to all affected passengers by email over the coming days.”
“Passengers will be offered alternative flights or full refunds as they so wish,” O’Leary said.
Ryan says it does not yet expect the delivery delays to affect its full year traffic target of 183.5 million passengers.
