Sabre job cuts to hit 1,000
Sabre is to cut between 350 and 490 jobs by the end of the year because of flat demand for travel.
The decision means the GDS will have cut around 1,000 positions in just 12 months. Some 553 jobs have already been axed since December 2001.
A spokesman for the company blamed the “continued stall in the travel industry” for the decision.
The redundancies will represent five to seven percent of the 7,000-strong workforce and will affect some departments more than others.
The company would not be more specific because it is still planning its 2003 budget. It refused to comment on the impact to agencies that use Sabre.
