This year’s travel industry sailing regatta organised by TravelMole will take place in Cowes, the home of world race sailing, on September 10.

Teams from all around the industry will be competing for the ‘McKenzie Cup’ at the event on the Isle of Wight.

Travel 2, Get-a-bed, Traveltek, Rock Insurance and Pierre et Vacances are among the companies with crews hoping to steal the wind of their rivals.

The regatta has been created to ensure that novices and experts can participate, making it an ideal event to invite clients and/or team building.

A fleet of J 109’s boats will be utilised given their properties as performance racing yachts.

At 35ft in length, they are comfortable racing with between four and seven crew members. Each boat will have one professional skipper on board.

Guests will arrive at the Royal Southern Yacht Club for a breakfast reception on the Hamble River.

During the morning the guests will get their first taste of cruising onboard a performance sailing yacht.

Everyone will work as a team to learn to tack, gybe, hoist sails and helm, all in preparation for the first race of the series.

After some more pre-regatta practice, the first race for the prestigious ‘McKenzie Cup’ will start.

Each race will take approximately 20–30 minutes, allowing three races to take place, giving plenty of time to improve tactics.

Once all three races have been completed and a winning team is found, the yachts will moor in Cowes and all teams will disembark.

After the completion of the race, the yachts will rendezvous in Cowes for a late lunch at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club back.

The winning crew will be presented with the trophy during afternoon celebrations.

The entire event will be filmed for TravelMole.TV
