Sam Allardyce among hundreds held up by IT failure at Manchester Airport
Former England manager Sam Allardyce was among hundreds of passengers who suffered severe delays flying out of Manchester because of what the airport described as an ‘IT issue’.
Allardyce was pictured on social media in a long queue of people at the airport after the IT failure on Saturday afternoon.
Many people took to social media to complain about having to wait for hours to fly, with some saying they’d not been offered any water, or guidance on how long they’d have to wait.
One passenger tweeted that the airport was in ‘total lockdown’, adding: "No-one checking in due to computer failure."
Another described the situation as ‘absolutely shambolic’.
The problem, which affected terminals one and two, was later rectified, but delays continued.
Manchester Airport tweeted at around 4pm: "We apologise to passengers for any inconvenience caused and will provide an update as soon as possible." A later tweet said the problem had been resolved.
In reply, one passenger tweeted: "This IS NOT resolved. Sitting on a plane for two hours on tarmac, being told insufficient baggage handlers and now the luggage system has gone down. Shambolic disgrace."
