San Diego attractions and hotels open for business
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and local tourism industry officials announced today that the city is ready to welcome visitors back to its beautiful shores. San Diego’s major attractions including the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park, LEGOLAND California, SeaWorld San Diego and other popular facilities are open for business.
“San Diego is and will remain a beautiful and welcoming place to visit,” said Mayor Sanders. “Because tourism is the region’s third largest industry, San Diego’s leisure and business travelers are critical to the recovery and rebuilding process. I commend the tourism industry’s response to the wildfires, and see it as a sign of the city’s resilience that our most beloved attractions are once again opening their doors.”
In addition to popular attractions, San Diego area beaches, restaurants, shopping centers, and many arts and culture offerings are welcoming visitors, and the region’s hotels are ready to accommodate travelers after providing lodging for evacuees.
“Tourism is the heart and soul of the region, comprised of thousands of locals who own and work in businesses from hotels to restaurants to boutique stores, and we need visitor support to keep San Diego flourishing,” said San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau CEO David Peckinpaugh. “Return visitors will find the same beautiful San Diego that they know and love, and first-time guests are sure to enjoy their stay.”
For visitors driving into San Diego, most major highways in the region are open, and the San Diego International Airport is fully operational for those arriving by air. The San Diego Convention Center Corporation and regional hotels are also welcoming their meeting groups and attendees.
“From sparkling beaches to a thriving downtown, San Diego does not disappoint,” said Peckinpaugh. “If you haven’t visited recently, now’s the time to come to San Diego.”
The wildfires in San Diego County are primarily located in the county’s outlying communities. Several of San Diego’s attractions closed temporarily to allow staff to attend to personal matters, and to ensure roads were clear for firefighting efforts. The current fires pose no threat to San Diego’s major visitor attractions and areas. For more information about San Diego, visit www.sandiego.org
