Sandals Bahamas to close temporarily amid escalating labor dispute

Sunday, 09 Aug, 2016 0
Nassau’s Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort has announced it will temporarily close down next week for two months.

Sandals management did not disclose the reason behind the closure but is likely due to an ongoing labor dispute after the company was accused of ‘skulduggery’ by threatening to close.

Trade Union Congress president Obie Ferguson called it the ‘highest level of union busting.’

"We appreciate your patience as we work through this challenging time. We have instituted a streamlined and efficient course of action for guests who may be affected," wrote Unique Vacations’ senior vice-president of sales, which handles all marketing for Sandals Resorts International.

The dispute between the Bahamas Hotel Maintenance and Allied Workers Union and Sandals has been deteriorating for some time and culminated in a blockade close to the property which resulted in several arrests.
