Saudi Arabia to slap three-year travel ban on citizens who visit ‘red list’ countries

Saudi Arabia is getting tough with its own citizens who travel to ‘red list’ countries.

It threatened to impose a three-year travel ban on Saudi citizens if they travel to any of the countries currently on its red list.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior warns its citizens not to travel to or transit through Afghanistan, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Lebanon, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey, Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates.

An official source at the ministry said that travel to the prohibited countries is a violation of announced instructions and will lead to heavy penalties.

The country has had an effective ban on travel to certain countries since the start of the pandemic.

Separately, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said only citizens fully vaccinated will be allowed to travel overseas from 9 August.

The country recorded more than 1.300 new Covid cases on Wednesday and 11 new deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, more than 8,000 Saudis have died.
