Scarlet gets international green travel award
global epitome of sustainable tourism gets gong
Taking the title for the international Green Travel award was the Scarlet Hotel at Mawgan Porth, near Newquay, which has been described as the "epitome of sustainable luxury the world over".
Readers of the Sunday Times Travel magazine voted in their thousands to reward the hotels, airlines, spas, websites, destinations and travel companies they rated most highly, with more than 300 potential winners nominated across 27 categories.
Emma Stratton, sustainability director at the Scarlet Hotel, said: "We are delighted to win the Green Travel award, especially as the award is voted for by the public.
"The fact that the Scarlet's sustainable outlook on hospitality has resonated with our guests spurs us on to continue to deliver and challenge how a luxury hotel can be sustainable."
The 37-bed boutique eco-hotel, which opened in 2009, boasts a reed filtered pool, a biomass boiler and natural ventilation systems to help reduce its carbon footprint.
