Scorching sun melts away ski season
UK: Scottish resorts give up the ghost before the traditionally-busy Easter break
Easter is traditionally the busiest part of the year for Scotland’s ski resorts – but warm and sunny weather has brought the season to a premature end because there is no snow left.
During some seasons there is plenty of snow throughout April and even into May – but yesterday saw temperatures rise into the seventies Fahrenheit in many resorts, so what little snow remained readily melted away. It had already been a poor season in terms of snowfall, with light falls early in the season and unseasonally high temperatures throughout March.
Tani Adams, marketing manager for the Cairngorm resort, told The Times: “Naturally we are disappointed that the snow will not be here for Easter for our skiing visitors but it would have been totally unrealistic for us to remain open. In the high temperatures that we have been experiencing of late, the snow was actually disappearing in front of our own eyes.”
