Scores die in Thailand festival
More than 160 people have been killed and 1,640 injured in 1,539 road accidents in the first three days of Thailand’s Songkran festival.
Songkran is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year’s Day from April 13-15. Thais celebrate by roaming the streets with containers of water or water guns.
Most accidents were the result of drink driving, the Road Safety Centre reported.
The death toll was lower than last year by 13.
On Sunday, 59 people were killed and 747 injured nationwide in 689 accidents.
Most accidents involved motorcycles (76%) and more than half of the victims were of working age, The Nation newspaper reported.
