Scores hit by sickness bug on Star Princess
The Star Princess cruise ship was delayed in port at Vancouver at the weekend after 61 pasengers came down with the sickness bug norovirus.
Reports suggest some of those affected were taken to hospital when the ship arrived on Sunday after a 15-day Hawaii cruise.
"We saw an increase in guests with gastrointestinal illness on the previous voyage," the cruise line said.
"As a result, we’re conducting enhanced cleaning in Vancouver, delaying embarkation for the next cruise."
Out of 2,590 passengers on board the ship there were five with ‘active symptoms’ said a Princess Cruises spokesperson.
One passenger, Chuck Woodcock, of Seattle said: "We stopped at four ports and every day there were people being taken off with ambulances."
The Star Princess suffered a previous norovirus outbreak in May this year with 135 passengers affected, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control.
