Scotland Yard investigation after laser attack at Heathrow
Scotland Yard has launched an investigation after a pilot was dazzled by a laser on the approach to Heathrow in the second attack in 10 days.
The captain of a British Airways flight from Amsterdam was targeted as the plane came in to land on Monday night.
Despite the attack, the flight landed safely.
The First Officer of a Virgin Atlantic flight bound for New York was struck in the eyes by a laser in a similar attack on February 14 and was forced to return to Heathrow.
It is believed that those responsible were using a laser capable of melting plastic or wood, so powerful that it managed to injure the pilot flying at 8,000 feet, reports the Daily Mail.
The Virgin flight was forced to make an emergency landing and the pilot was taken to hospital.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson today confirmed officers are now probing the latest incident, which occurred at 7.47pm on Monday night.
