SeaLink to acquire Transit Systems’ ferry business
SeaLink Travel Group is on track to become Australia’s largest operator in marine tourism after agreeing a deal to buy Transit Systems Marine for $125 million.
SeaLink, which operates the brands SeaLink and Captain Cook Cruises, will take over Transit Systems Marine’s 33 vessels, boosting its fleet size to 80.
Transit Systems operates passenger and vehicle ferries mostly in Queensland.
On completion of the deal, SeaLink will have capacity to carry more than six million passengers a year.
"It provides us with a new growth engine as it will significantly enhance our ability to compete for large-scale marine transport business opportunities in Australia and overseas," said SeaLink managing director Jeff Ellison.
"It also reinforces our position as the leading provider of marine ferry services in Australia and will be transformational for the company."
Transit Systems Marine was established in 1995 and will now focus on its international bus business, SeaLink said.
