Seaside Heights coaster wreck fate undecided
One of the now iconic images of Hurricane Sandy is the skeleton of a roller coaster half-submerged off the shore at Seaside Heights, New Jersey.
The Star Jet went into the water during the Hurricane in a nearly intact state, although its owner says that it is now continuing to collapse into the sea.
Seaside Heights Mayor, Bill Akers has told Fox News in NY that he believes the wrecked coaster remains might stay where they are and would "make a great tourist attraction." He says that the Coast Guard is working to decide whether or not the coaster would be stable enough to leave it where it is.
He told reporters that construction on a new boardwalk would start in January and be up in time for Memorial Day.
