Second night of anti-Trump protests ends in violence
A second night of protests in the US following the election of Donald Trump ended in a riot in Portland, Oregon, said the BBC.
Thousands of demonstrators descended on the city centre where shop and car windows were smashed, rubbish was set alight and firecrackers were thrown. Some 29 people were arrested.
In other cities, including New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Philadelphia, there were smaller, peaceful protests.
However, in Minneapolis, demonstrators briefly blocked an interstate highway and in Baltimore a crowd of 600 stopped the traffic as they marched through the city.
Brand USA spokeswoman Anne Madison yesterday dismissed fears the election result would put Britons off visiting the US. She said the marketing body would continue its ‘significant’ investment in the UK to encourage visits to the States.
