Security officials’ catch dozens of passengers with loaded guns’
Security officials have caught passengers trying to carry 35 loaded firearms onto flights in the US in only a week.
The haul was disclosed by the Transportation Security Administration days after it emerged that two passengers had managed to board separate London-bound flights from Phoenix, Arizona carrying a gun and a flick knife.
In addition to the 35 loaded guns, screeners discovered 74 credit card knives, including 14 on passengers attempting to board flights at Florida’s Tampa airport.
A passenger in Detroit tried boarding a flight with a flick-knife hidden in his shoe.
Two passengers, one in Detroit and the other in Kansas City were found with knives disguised as combs.
TSA screeners have also found stun guns, switchblades, an inert hand grenade and a live smoke grenade in the past week. At Phoenix, a passenger was found with eight ounces of bear repellent in a carry-on bag.
