Security screener charged with smuggling drugs through airport

Monday, 22 Dec, 2015 0
Charges have been filed against an airport security screener in the US for her part in an organised scheme to smuggle marijuana.

Kiana Scott Clark, 28, of San Mateo, who works at Oakland Airport, has been accused of abusing her position to facilitate the movement of large quantities of pot undetected through security screening over a two-year period.

Clark has been charged with conspiring to distribute controlled substances and conspiring to obstruct, impede, and interfere with Transportation Security Administration functions.

If convicted, Clark could face a sentence of up to 55 years in federal prison and fines of up to $5.7 million.

Federal prosecutors allege Clark informed co-conspirators in advance which TSA screening machine she would be operating, and then turned a blind eye to the illicit contraband, allowing them to pass through undetected.

It is alleged more 100 kilograms of marijuana had passed through the airport from September 2013 through October 2015.

The pot was destined for various destinations throughout the country.
