See Elvis for conventions?
The popular tourist destination of Graceland could very well end up a robust tourist and convention destination if current talks go as planned.
CKX Inc., a company that develops entertainment concepts that include “American Idol,” is discussing the issue with officials in Memphis, Tenn.
A spokesperson for CKR said talks have just started about the possibility of transforming the former home of Elvis Presley into a convention attraction.
Two 400-room hotels, convention space, restaurants, shops and a spa are among possible elements, according to the New York Times.
The impact on conventions is limited, but the 550,000 square foot Pyramid in Memphis was recently sold to Bass Pro Shops, who plans another of their outdoor sporting goods outlets to open in 2008.
That could draw another one to two million visitors to Memphis, officials estimated, since Bass draws from a wide geographical area.
