See Queensland: By bike, trike and tandem

Friday, 22 Aug, 2012 0

Lycra will be optional for 900 riders taking part in September’s Cycle Queensland 2012: Gayndah to Noosa.

Organised by Bicycle Queensland, riders have registered ‘modes of transportation’ including road bikes and tricycles to tandems and mountain bikes for the 542km ride.

The ride will start in Gayndah on Saturday, September 8 and finish in Noosa on Sunday, September 16.

The recreational ride attracts a wide range of riders – from an 18 month old (being towed in a bike trailer) to an 88-year-old.

Along the way, the riders stay in campsites and are encouraged to explore the towns, with locals organising tours and entertainment.

Activities planned this year include a Mary Poppins Sing-a-long (Maryborough), Bullock Display (Gayndah) and Turtle Tours (Tiaro).

The riders will be accompanied by a support crew of more than 180 people, of whom 130 are volunteers responsible for tasks including marshalling, catering, first aid, campsite set up and logistics.

Cycle Queensland is in its 11th year – past events have included Port Douglas to Mission Beach, Goondiwindi to the Gold Coast and Miles to Mooloolaba.
