Senior travelers favor the fall
Traveling in the fall is getting more popular with married couples in the 55-plus demographic, says Travel Guard.
Their survey found couples cite dwindling crowds as the main reason for booking a vacation during the autumn season.
Those surveyed report enjoying outdoor activities such as camping and hiking (45 percent) followed by traveling to enlighten their culinary senses (27 percent).
Favored locations for fall getaways included:
—Europe
—New York State
—New England
The poll also shows that most travelers who book fall getaways are gradually spending more, with 20 percent of respondents reporting the magic number is approximately US$5,000 per trip.
"It’s a great time to travel, especially for empty-nesters with more flexible schedules who can take advantage of less crowded destinations,” said Dan McGinnity, vice president for Travel Guard North America.
