Capella Macau and Shanghai join prestigious Five-Star level of Forbes Travel Guide 2026
Forbes Travel Guide, the global rating system dedicated to luxury hotels, restaurants, spas and cruise ships, has unveiled its 2026 Star Awards, recognizing six properties from Capella Hotel Group at the highest Five-Star level in Asia.
Capella Shanghai received an upgraded Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating this year and joins fellow honorees featured on ForbesTravelGuide.com. The heritage shikumen-style property now stands alongside Capella Singapore, Capella Bangkok, Capella Hanoi, Capella at Galaxy Macau and Patina Maldives, Fari Islands among the brand’s Five-Star portfolio.
Capella at Galaxy Macau, the group’s newest property, which officially opened on February 10, achieved an impressive milestone by earning a Five-Star rating in its debut recognition. Located within the Galaxy Macau integrated resort, the hotel brings Capella’s signature focus on cultural storytelling and highly personalized service to one of Asia’s most vibrant entertainment hubs.
Across the portfolio, all previously rated properties, spas and dining venues retained their rankings. Capella Sydney and Capella Ubud maintained their Four-Star status, while Auriga Spa at Capella Singapore and Auriga Wellness at Capella Bangkok both held their Five-Star distinctions. Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire at Capella Shanghai also preserved its Four-Star restaurant rating.
An exceptional achievement crowns Capella Singapore: Forbes Travel Guide attributed the Five-Star level to the property for 14 consecutive years.
“Capella Shanghai’s elevation reflects the powerful intersection of cultural vision and operational excellence,” said Clive Edwards, Senior Vice President of Operations at Capella Hotel Group. “From Singapore’s 14-year legacy to Shanghai’s evolution and Macau’s debut, our properties demonstrate how deep cultural immersion enhances service excellence. This validates our growth strategy as we prepare to launch Patina Tianjin and Capella Nanjing in 2026, each rooted in its own distinct cultural identity.”
The 68th annual Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards cover more than 95 countries worldwide, highlighting the industry’s top-performing luxury properties.
“Forbes Travel Guide’s Star Award winners represent the highest standards of hospitality excellence,” said Amanda Frasier, President of Standards & Ratings at Forbes Travel Guide. “This year’s list reflects the evolving landscape of luxury travel, with properties delivering authentic experiences, exceptional amenities, enhanced wellness offerings, and truly memorable guest experiences.”
Forbes Travel Guide’s annual Star Awards are based on up to 900 objective criteria, with anonymous inspectors evaluating service quality, facility standards, and the overall guest experience.
