Shapps to outline amber list quarantine-free plan as holiday demand spikes

The Transport Secretary will confirm and outline plans for quarantine-free travel to amber list countries as demand soars for late summer holidays.

Grant Shapps is expected to give the green light to skip quarantine for amber countries for fully vaccinated travellers.

It is expected to take effect from 19 July and will allow unvaccinated children to avoid quarantine when travelling with double-jabbed parents.

However post-travel Covid tests will be required.

It will open up travel to up to 140 countries including perennial favourites Spain, the Greek Islands, France, Italy and others.

Ministers will reportedly sign off on the final rules and start date at Cabinet meeting before Shapps’ Commons statement.

"The news that the double vaccinated will very soon be able to escape quarantine on return from amber countries to the UK – along with the additions to the green list in the last fortnight – is resulting in a rapid turnaround in Brits’ confidence levels to search for and book a Med escape," said Emma Coulthurst, from price comparison site TravelSupermarket.
