Sharon Munro steps down for ‘personal reasons’
Sharon Munro is to step down as president of Barrhead Travel for ‘personal reasons’.
The daughter of the agency’s founder Bill Munro has been with the company for 28 years.
She will leave on January 1 and will be succeeded by the current managing director Jacqueline Dobson.
The announcement comes after Barrhead Travel Group was sold to US-based Travel Leaders Group earlier this year.
Munro said it had been a difficult decision but felt the timing was right to hand over the reins.
"I would like to thank our staff for their hard work and dedication, our loyal and growing number of customers and our brilliant partners – they are all part of the successful Barrhead Travel story," she said.
"I would also like to thank Travel Leaders Group for their support for making us part of their global family. The benefits of scale and expertise mean the business is in great shape and they have helped prepare Barrhead Travel for the next stage of our development."
Dobson, who has worked for Barrhead for 18 years, added: "Having worked in every area of the business, my focus will be on accelerating growth through investment from Travel Leaders Group, including digital innovation, staff development and world-class customer service. It is an exciting time to be taking over the helm."
Ninan Chacko, CEO of Travel Leaders Group, said: "We wish to extend tremendous thanks and appreciation to Sharon for her leadership, vision and dedication to Barrhead Travel. She has been a true partner and outstanding professional.
"Likewise, we are delighted to welcome Jacqueline to her new role. Her deep knowledge of the company, extensive experience, strong relationships and well-established leadership skills, position her well to ensure a smooth and seamless transition."
