Three crewmembers on Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas have been arrested and charged after attempting to smuggle drugs into the US.
According to the American newspaper The Baltimore Sun, they tried to smuggle 700 grammes of heroin and 300 grammes of cocaine into Baltimore from the Dominican Republic.
The crew members have been named as Gavin Excell, 35, John Swart Garth and Kishurn Neptune, both 27.
Department of Homeland security agents report that the men picked up the drugs in the Dominican Republic when the ship called there earlier in the month and tried to take them off by hiding them in shoes and waistbands as they disembarked back in Baltimore.
However, a security officer for Royal Caribbean tipped off customs officials and the men were apprehended.
