Shun Tak still seeking Pac On ferry slots

MACAU – Pansy Ho, managing director of MGM Grand and head of Shun Tak Holdings, which has been operating ferry services between Hong Kong and Macau for the past 45 years, says Shun Tak is still awaiting government approval to operate services to the Macau airport ferry terminal (Pac On) which partially opens today.

“As an operator and concession holder, we have not been notified by the government as yet whether we can start services there (at Pac On),” Ms. Ho told Ms. Ho told Destination Macau

“One year ago we applied for six berths at Pac On. We have not received confirmation from the government, but we will continue to pursue our right to have services there. It is also in the interest of the public to open up more berths.”

Currently, the Venetian has rights to operate their 400-seat ferries at Pac On, and Giant Dragon is seeking approval from Hong Kong to operate their 1,200-seat ferries between the two cities.

Ms. Ho spoke to the press at the unveiling of a 10-metre bronze MGM lion, sculpted by the same artist who created the world’s largest bronze Buddha in Hong Kong.

The opening date for the new 600-room MGM Grand has yet to be confirmed, although the rumour around town is December 9.

The property also announced plans to open a Six Senses spa to be managed by the Bangkok-based Six Senses Resorts and Spas group.

The spa will feature 12 treatment areas including vitality pools, herbal steam rooms, snow cabins and relaxation areas overlooking the Pearl River.
