SIA will honor tickets in business class bungle

Singapore Airlines has drawn a line under a dispute with travel agents, saying today it will honor all bookings made for business class tickets which the carrier wrongly assigned at economy fares.

The glitch arose after SIA changed a booking sub-class originally assigned to Economy Class bookings which was to be used for business class bookings from today.

Up to 900 flight segments were made for business class seats at economy fares before the problem was spotted at the end of November.

It was reported the majority were for long haul flights to and from Europe, representing a fare difference of up to $4,000.

SIA had earlier said customers would be liable for the difference in price, ‘downgrade’ to an economy seat or receive a full refund.

However, the airline has now announced it will honor all bookings in business class.

"Singapore Airlines will be contacting affected customers and travel agents to advise that their business class bookings will be honored at the original fare purchased. Singapore Airlines would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused," the airline said in a statement.
