Silly season research from EasyJet

Tea bags, toilet rolls, hair straighteners, Marmite and condoms are all essentials for millions of Brits when packing their bags for their summer holiday, according to new research from easyJet.

According to the poll commissioned by the no-frills carrier, one in five (21%) Brits will insist on taking their travel kettle and tea bags with them when they go on holiday this year.

Women (24%), the over 50s (28%) and Northerners (24%) are the most likely to ensure that they get a proper cuppa when they go abroad. The research, commissioned this month, asked 2,000 people what they would take with them on their next holiday.

Key findings included:

  • One in ten (11%) people would make sure they had a McVities biscuit or Cadbury’s chocolate bar to go with their tea by taking it with them. The under-30s (15%) are most likely to appease their sweet tooth;
  • Six per cent of people love Marmite enough to take a jar of it with them when they head off to foreign climes;
  • More than one in four people make sure they’re always
    prepared by taking a toilet roll with them when they go on holiday.  Those
    aged between 30 and 50 (30%) and those from Wales (33%) are most likely to
    pack an emergency loo roll;
  • 13% of people plan to take a packet of condoms with them when heading abroad. This figure rises to 36 per cent among people aged 18 to 30.  Londoners (16%) are the most likely to make sure that they take some protection with them on holiday;
  • Some 72 per cent of holidaymakers will take their mobile phone with them. Travellers aged 18 to 30 (77%) are the most likely to make sure they can text and call from abroad.
